Quelques petits mots sur TGCW 2014 – A few words on TGCW 2014

Free booksTrillia Newbell

Books I bought

A few words to let you all know that I am very happy of my time spent in Orlando Florida at Gospel Coalition. I went there for a women’s conference. The theme was on “Rebuilding” (studying the book of Nehemiah).

Presently I am in the process of relaxing and mediating on the profoundness of the texts and the richness of the teaching that we received in such a shortage of time. What a blessing to receive the teachings of both men and women who are so well grounded and educated in the Word of God and who know how to teach it so well. I needed that! The expectations were high since we went through the book of Nehemiah together! This being done with great justice and precisions to the Scriptures.  I will come back on Nehemiah in another blog.

I was especially pleased seeing as I was blessed to assist two sessions called “focus gatherings” with Jani Ortland and Trillia Newbell.  One in which we were almost 20 women and the other at 7:15 (after a fire drill woke us up), where we were about 12! It was very intimate and enjoyable to exchange with each of them that way, (one on one). I particularly like my time with Trillia Newbell just because I related a bit more since she is a writer and I was able to exchange on that level about things that we have in common. What a blessing to be introduced to a woman who has influenced me greatly in my life in such a short time by her writings and encourages me spiritually. I praise God for this wonderful blessing. I am grateful!

The other big surprise I had was been being invited to a Band of bloggers Session/ Writer’s Seminar reserved for 100 women only. You can imagine that with 4000 women there were more than 100 who blogged!!! Some heard about this and were of course disappointed that they had not been invited to this special event, which I can fully understand. Curiously to my grand surprise, I was invited! Thank you Lord. I am so thankful and at the same time surprised. I see the hand of my great God. This invitation gave me a wonderful direction for my writing, my blog, and even my reading. I had great contacts with the editors of crossway and now I will let God lead the way for the future. I also got the blessing to meet wonderful women who greatly encouraged me to persevere in my writing. Women like Melissa Kruger, Jen WilkinChristina Fox and Gloria Furman, despite the fact that at certain times in our lives it can be more difficult. Because of the collaboration and the efforts of many publishing houses and hard-working people, we who assisted received 18 free books each!!! This is awesome because over 100 women received this wonderful blessing. Wow so happy…although a small problem arises baggage wise since I had gone to the awesome BIG bookstore before, looking to shop for a few books! But no fear…  I found a way!

One of the things that greatly encouraged me of course was seeing all those women gather together, and that for the sole purpose of knowing God better. What an effervescence effect that had in my life! They shared a statistics with us according to the inscriptions, 50% of the women that were attending the conference were less than 40 years old. I am not part of that statistics! Ha ha ha. What an encouragement for the continuation of the Gospel and the heritage we are leaving to the next generations and to the present one.

I leave you with a citation form Tim Keller that he also told us in the year of 2012 and again this year:

“We’re not here to talk about women. We’re here for women to talk about God.”

Discover Titus in a whole new way! – Book Review

Titus For You

Titus For You

By

Tim Chester

Titus! I love this little Pastoral Epistles written by Paul tucked away between 2 Timothy and Philemon. It’s only three chapters long yet how edifying to read. It’s actually my favorite. In this book Titus For You containing 200 pages, you will be excited of all the pearls of wisdom you will discover from Tim Chester. I’ve read many books on Titus over the past two years now and every author seems to have his own perspective or point of view on what Paul is saying. I found Chester’s view to resonate deeply with the Scriptures and within my soul!

First of all I especially appreciate the way he takes the time to divide the three chapters to unify them for the glory of God.

Chapter one is about keeping the Gospel central

Chapter two is about ensuring the Gospel is central in everyday living

Chapter three is about ensuring the Gospel is central for the sake of the mission.

What we are essentially seeing in this Epistle according to the author is that Paul is focusing on disciplining the people with the Gospel. Paul desires for Titus to bring order by disciplining people through the Word for mission.

Chester develops the Epistle by going through many verses explaining them in a clear precise way that is easy and comprehensible. You couldn’t call this a verse-by-verse commentary but somehow I found it more in debt and profound then some other commentaries that I have studied on Titus. I say this because of the way Chester brings everything together when he explains specific points just by using other verses and explaining it straight forward. He does a great job in bringing out important insightful points that we too often neglect the pertinence because we read it so fast. Example:  he shows us clearly how Jesus’ first coming was an act of grace yet His second coming will be an act of glory for God.

I also appreciated the way he reminded us that the glory of God is a threat to those who do not know him. This sometimes is a detail I tend to forget when I ponder on Gods glory. Because I am a Christian I seem to always think of nice things when I think of glory and God. But not so if you’re not a Christian!

His last chapter: Stress These Things, Live These Things, I found particular encouraging. I loved how in the end it boils down to how we are to treat people the way Jesus treated people. That is, with humility and gentleness! If we are honest, this is a bit radical for some of us in our culture today where freedom of speech, our opinions and pride override those wonderful virtues that may seem for some of us, out of date. Yet, as we clearly see in Titus chapter 3 they are still to be lived out today for the children of God.

After ever section you have a few questions to help you meditate more deeply on what you’ve just read. I believe this helps the person who desires to dig deeper into the Word, it’s the extra nudge.

It’s a marvelous book on Titus and one that I intend to keep close at hand as a reference book. As of yet in my many readings this is the first version I have had of this venue and it fits really well with what I read that Don Carson briefly wrote about in – An Introduction to the New Testament, in the section about Titus.

I leave you with these two awesome quotes:

Grace does not simply prepare us for the future age (by saving us from God’s judgment). Grace also shapes our lives in the present. The gospel is good news for the last day. But it is also good news for the next day.”

God’s kindness is seen in the sending of his Son and the sending of his Spirit, so that we might share in the rebirth of all things.”

Ainsi la vie continue – Thus life goes on

Question d’enrichir mon anglais!

Ça me jette par terre chaque fois.

Thus life goes on…

We are already middle of June; I have not seen the time go by! Is it possible that my sweat hubby is right when he tells me that I take on to many projects at a time? Hum…

At any rate, it would seem that summer is finally arrived in Québec. Despite that the temperature varies a lot from one day to another. Some days it’s 20 degrees Celsius and other days its 30! Oh well, that’s Québec for you! If you add the humidity factor, it’s even hotter. Yet, with our long winter, I guess we (I) mustn’t complain too much.

I’m presently working in our yard with my husband because since we have renovated our home we have much cleaning up to do around the house. Ah, we realize that we are not young anymore and do not have the same capacity we had… we are growing older!!!

I am glad though to say that at least I don’t have to juggle with the book project and the house cleaning outside at the same time anymore. This was getting to be a bit too much for me. Finally, things are getting just a bit calmer… if we can qualify this as calm.

This summer I am planning to do a bit less reading for book reviews. Well, that’s my goal! I would like to take advantage of my reading time and do some leisure reading. Change my ideas somewhat. I have ordered myself two books that should arrive soon. I can’t wait! I don’t know if I will have the time to read them all because they are long. But anyways, I have the inspiration to try… ha ha ha. I have ordered the complete series of Jane Austen and the book Jane Eyre. A question of perfecting my English!

The Lord is reconstructing me (and my hubby) after a long period of difficulties in our spiritual life. We had to take a very hard decision that has caused us great distress emotionally and the consequences are grieving us terribly. Yet, sometimes in our lives God traces a road that is beyond what we can imagine. We are acting on the conviction of the Word and obeying. This seems so easy to write down; nonetheless it is more than hard in reality!

One of my greatest encouragements is that at the end of this month, I am going to leave for Gospel Coalition. I have so much joy. Especially after these last few months I have been going through! The theme is “Rebuilding” and I have the impression that the Lord did this just for me. It’s marvelous once again to see just how God knows all our needs. This knocks me down every time. The divine hand of my Holy God will rebuild me during this weekend by many wonderful teachings of the Word. Amen! He is presently preparing the soil …

Thank you my Almighty Lord.
