Prayer Warrior Mom

Prayer Warrior Mom by Marla Alupoaicei

In order to fully appreciate « Prayer Warrior Mom« , at times I found it best to remind myself of those days when I was a younger mother and not as knowledgeable spiritually. Those where many years ago!  In doing so, I was capable of putting myself in the shoes of a younger mother and remember just how inadequate we can sometimes feel when it comes to our prayer life.

In “Prayer Warrior Mom” Marla Alupoaicei is quick to remind us of our need to run to the cross for many of these inadequacies we might recognize, in order to be an effective Prayer warrior mom. Doesn’t every mother want to be an effective prayer warrior for her child? Yes, of course! Yet, as most of us find out sooner than later, many times we don’t do what we planned out to do. Or maybe we do it but our prayers just don’t turn out the way we expected them to. Thus, leaving us with this guilty feeling that overwhelms us and leads us to the inability to pray because of the lies we believe. In her book she goes through many wonderful subjects to help us deepen our love for prayer, such as understanding through the love of Scripture and knowing God more profoundly.

Close to the end of the book, I was stunned to realize that even though I am soon to be a grandmother, I’m a prayer warrior mom. Because after all, when you’re a mom, there is really no age at which you stop praying for your children, is there? I’ m still praying for my son and he is soon to be a father himself and almost in his thirties.  This book is for all mom’s, whatever your age is. I am already covering my unborn grandchild, James, with showers of prayers.

There are some places I did have issues with figures of speech that the author uses all through her book. Expression such as; I clearly heard God say, the Lord told me. I won’t go into a theological debate here because I do understand what Alupoaicei means by those expressions. I simply believe that to write in such a way could be misleading or misinterpreted. Even if the author does take the precautions to explain carefully what she is trying to say by those expressions, I would not use those terms.

Overall, this is a great book that is sure to be helpful for moms who need the special budge on lifting up their prayer life a notch!

Beaucoup de lecture… A lot of reading…

Reading is cool

Beaucoup de lecture…

Bonjour,

A lot of reading…

Hello everyone,

As you may have surely recognized, I am doing more and more book reviews. I am reading many books. Book publishers give me books and in exchange I write book reviews. Yet, way beyond that, is the fact that I just love to read. So, for me it is way more than just book reviews, it’s a great way of getting free books and taking advantage of reading and saving. Love!

One day, I heard the writer Elizabeth George in a conference say this: “ If you want to become a writer, just read a lot, a lot of books and then begin to write, it’s as simple as that”.  Well, I would tell you that it is almost what I did. I would also tell you that it is mostly because of this quote and it’s impact in my life that I am now an author! Slowly it made it’s way in my life and with time, after reading many books, I started writing.

I have never lost my desire to read. Although, sometimes, I do lack the time! Especially if I am suppose to be writing on my own book, which I should be doing right now!! But as my present physical health is keeping me from having the energy needed to do the researches that I need for my book. My brain doesn’t seem to have enough reserves these days!!! So I must take a pause, therefore, I am taking advantage of this situation to fully read up on other books.

I must admit that it is not always easy to write book reviews. It is difficult for me, when I must take a biblical position that may seem “hard” or “offensive” towards the author. On the other hand, it is necessary if it goes against the Scriptures, especially if the book if said to be Christian. There are a lot of books today being sold called “Christian” books.  But, they are not necessarily all centered on the Gospel of Jesus Christ. That is my number one criteria in a book when I read and it has the Christian label!

Well, now you know why all those logos on the right side of my blog. Those are the publishers that have been feeding my brain with books from some time now. Thanks to each one of them.

Book Review – Beautiful Lies

Beautiful Lies

By

Jennifer Strickland

Beautiful Lies

It didn’t take long to comprehend once I got into this book that the writer really knew what she was talking about. Lies, and living your life based on them, is something she can write about! We quickly pick up that Jennifer Strickland has experienced what she is writing about. Is there anything more reassuring when reading about such a sensitive subject than knowing that the author has been down that very road? I found it uplifting and comforting to have someone who’s been through such hardships, now being capable of total abandonment of her past. Liberated because of God and now serving God! Which is one reason her book is probably such a great comfort and brings us to the feet of Christ. It gives us hope that all is possible…by the power of Jesus Christ.

One thing that I definitely loved of Strickland is that she constantly brings us back to God, his Word and the importance of finding our worth and identity in Him alone. What a contrast with this world that tries to fill our minds with lies! I loved and applauded this of her. As Strickland clearly explains, we desperately need to find our true identity in Christ alone.

We are obsessed with body image, self love, sexual freedom, our worth in what others say of us, anorexia, binges, over exercising, glamour, modeling and fashion. These are just a few subjects she writes about and how the culture feeds us lies that we so eagerly bite into. She on the other hand, counter attacks these powerfully lies with the truths of the Word of God.

I especially loved this quote at the very start – » Lies can be pretty but the truth is Beautiful. As hard as it is to look it square in the eye, truth does free us. »

Bull’s eye! It is a great way to start. No fuss, straight to the point. Strickland goes to the heart of things and doesn’t mince words. Yet, it is always with the love and truth of the Lord. All this, considering she has suffered firsthand and still has the scares today. Yes, God heals. Yet, as we know, we must live with the consequences from our choices.

After my reading of this book, I was deeply encouraged, moved to reach out and be more engaged in the life of younger women. The younger generation needs to be supported by woman who desire to live Titus 2:3-5. Who will pour out these godly truths in the lives of the ones who so profoundly need to hear them and see them lived out?

I couldn’t recommend this book enough for all generations of Christian women! We all need it. Whether it is as a reminder of these lies or simply to be inspired to be the spiritual mother of a young lady in need, I recommend this book.
