Mon {mot} – My {word}

My One Word

D’ici là, je vous partage mon mot pour cette année :  {cœur}

My {word} for 2014

I am so pleased with my {word} this year! I’m excited because I know all the great things the Lord will produce just because of a tiny {word}. Well, let’s say its more all that’s happening behind the scenes because of this little {word}!  It’s wonderful, hard, exciting and sometimes exhausting, but always a blessing to see the hand of my mighty God.

For those of you that aren’t aware of what I am writing about last year I started this new tradition. If we can call it like that, and I loved it so much that I don’t have the intention of stopping soon.

However, I am not the one who invented this wonderful idea. I found this in a book called; “My One Word.” It’s excellent and I do recommend that you read it for yourself if you like this idea. What is fascination is that we can start at anytime of the year and not only at New Years. We need only to choose a {word} in prayer and let the Holy Spirit transform us.

I read the book again before choosing my {word}, matter of placing myself into the mood and making sure that I fully comprehended what the author recommends. I appreciated more my second reading of the book, only proving that this is an excellent book!

During this year my hope is to share with you some portions of this book. For one reasons this will help you understand why I do this and on the other hand this may also persuade you to do the same. With more information, it will give you a better vision and point of view of the author and will help you assimilate the benefits that we get from practicing this in our lives.

Till then, here is my one word for the year: {heart}

In Greek

kardia: heart

Original Word: καρδία, ας, ἡ

Part of Speech: Noun, Feminine

Transliteration: kardia

Phonetic Spelling: (kar-dee’-ah)

Short Definition: the heart, inner life, intention

Definition: lit: the heart; mind, character, inner self, will, intention, center.

2588 kardíaheart; « the affective center of our being » and the capacity of moral preference (volitional desire, choice; see P. Hughs, 2 Cor, 354); « desire-producer that makes us tick » (G. Archer), i.e our « desire-decisions » that establish who we really are.

[Heart (2588 /kardía) is mentioned over 800 times in Scripture, but never referring to the literal physical pump that drives the blood. That is, « heart » is only used figuratively (both in the OT and NT.]

My verse is Psalm 119: 11

I have hidden your word in my heart

that I might not sin against you.

If I think back on the year 2013 I know fully well that God will reveal many little things to me through this small {word} to work and purify my life according to his ways. That’s why I chose this verse to accompany my walk…I will need to place Gods Word in my heart more than ever!

I leave you with this quote from the book for you to ponder on.

“This book will give a simple but effective plan to effect personal change (spiritual formation) by allowing a single word to become the lens through which you examine your heart and life for an entire year.

Your single word will force clarity and concentrate your efforts. And as you focus on your word over an extended period of time, you position yourself for God to for your character at a deep, sustainable level”. 2

Book review of Housewife Theologian finally!

Housewife Theologian

By

Aimee Byrd

Aimee is a very impressive articulate writer to say the least. Of course if you follow her blog Housewife Theologian, you already know this. Don’t expect the bar to be any lower in her book. In fact I found quiet the opposite to be true. Maybe it’s because I’m a French Canadian and English is my second language, but Byrd really has an eloquent vocabulary. Reading her serves to be very inspiring and knowledgeable for my own personal writing skills!

But this is very secondary to her teaching gift that she pens so elegantly into her book! I say this because I know a really good book when I read one. Not because I like the author, which I do! Yet because beyond that, and most assuredly since it is based on the word of God, the Scriptures. Amiee constantly brings her readers to think on the Word and learn to live, breath and love it. Like she often says to us, “learn to be good theologians”. Discerning between the truth and the lies by knowing our God and His word. She desires to awaken in us a true love and passion for Christ as women right where we are. That being, even if we are choosing to be delightful “housewives!”

Don’t be fooled though by her title! I personally believe that the title does not fully put into full value and do justice to the great stuff this book contains, if you where to stop there. It could be misleading if you don’t read on. What I mean is the book is filled with great knowledge that goes way beyond what one might expect behind a title containing such a word  like  “housewife.” Which Aimee explains well in her book. Once you start reading, you quickly comprehend where the author is going with such a title and why she chose that specific word. I hope that women will not get stuck on this word – “housewife” and move beyond it, so that they may be blessed by the richness of what Aimee has written in this book.

The book is filled with solid theological teachings that are much needed. Not just for married women I might add but for all women. It just might bring an awakening of our lack of many misunderstandings in our comprehension of biblical foundations that need adjustments. Or, it could confirm what we already believed and affirm our faith! Either way, Aimee has done a wonderful job in delivering us a well thought out book that is written with great candor.

This is far from being a « Martha Stewart » book on the how too’s of cooking and such things. Not that I have anything against those kinds of books.   But if this is what you are expecting, well you won’t find it in this book.

What was interesting to me was to see the entire different subjects that Byrd intertwined into her book. Many I didn’t expect. I guess with that title I had a preconceived idea of what I was going to read. This book was like a cracker jack box for me. It was full of wonderful surprises that I found great delight in reading. Subject like sin, submission, friendship, hospitality, sexuality, biblical femininity, true Christian unity and many more interesting subjects.

After every chapter there are journaling questions that are deep and stimulating for the mind spiritually. They can be done alone or in small groups with other woman. This would also be a great book to do with someone you are mentoring.

I strongly suggest that you invest in a few dollars into this book and you won’t regret your money’s worth! There is much to gleam from and you will read it most likely more than once. This is one high quality book, based on the Word of God with a writer that certainly knows how to deliver a good message. I think  all Christian woman would greatly profit from the reading of Byrd’s book. I highly recommend it!

Belle journée – Wonderful day

Hi everyone,

I wanted to share with you all, the wonderful day that we had on November 2nd. I wrote about this coming event in a previous blog. We had a women’s conference at our local church, and I was the invited speaker. The theme was: has feminism fogged up our vision on our role as women according to the Word of God?

This was a most splendid day for the glory of God! What an incredible time of encouragement for the women as for myself. Such a wonderful time of communion and edifying of one another. We had the most sublime conversations that pushed us more and more towards looking at our position in Christ and our role in the society as audacious women of God.

What was obvious, and came out during the day, is the great  need and urgency of this subject, at least here in Québec. Feminism and its influence in our lives as women of God,  and the impact of it in our lives, is not something we discuss often. Most of the time, we do not even mix these two subjects together. I firmly believe that we must approach  these two subjects more. Sadly, I witnessed again, how this was confirmed on Saturday! The women were glad and amazed to comprehend so many things, finally. All the while being stunned of all this meant and the implications it had in their lives. Yet, it all starts with the Spirit making us first aware in our conscience…then the work continues in our lives. WOW! That is true freedom.

I am fully aware that it was harder to hear for some than others. Yet I also know that God continues His work in the hearts of his beloved at the pace that we let Him work in our lives and that which we are ready.  I was only the one, who for that day God granted the privilege to deliver a message that He had place on my heart, with great passion for the women, for His glory.
